Birth Pangs-The Armies of the North – Osama bin Laden and other fun

“One of the features of political Tradition has been the search for a school of the transcendent that could serve as the organizing principle of a new society. Theoretically, any of the great religious traditions might serve. In practice, though, Traditionalists have usually chosen a radical version of Islam or some kind of neopaganism;… Tradition can be scary, however. Sometimes this knowledge of the inevitable collapse of the modern world inspires nothing more than the formation of groups of adepts who hope to manage the transition when civilization collapses. Sometimes, however, Tradition has sparked the creation of anarchist political groups that hope to accelerate the collapse”[1]

What do we know about Osama bin Laden? We have been told that he is an Islamic militant who hates the west and its values. What do the Muslims know about him? With regard to his religion and its world view we are told he is Sunni Muslim, a purist.

His association with Simon al Zawaheri speaks differently. al Zawaheri was a member of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. The Brotherhood with regard to their religious and mystical leanings are Sufi or more specifically Qutbist, for those who follow Sayyid Qutb. This is the philosophy of the Muslim Brotherhood which is essentially NeoPlatonic and does not distinguish between matters of belief, so long as people adhere to their movement. This is why the outwardly Shia al Zawaheri and the outwardly Sunni bin Laden can be comrades and brothers.

In an article titled “Terror, Islam and Democracy,” Ladan and Roya Boroumand correctly state that “Most young Islamist cadres today are the direct intellectual and spiritual heirs of the Qutbist wing of the Muslim Brotherhood.” And further, “When the authoritarian regime of President Gamel Abdel Nasser suppressed the Muslim Brothers in 1954 (it would eventually get around to hanging Qutb in 1966), many went into exile in Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Syria and Morocco. From there, they spread their revolutionary Islamist ideas – including the organizational and ideological tools borrowed from European totalitarianism.”
The Independent’s John Gray argues in an article entitled “How Marx turned Muslim” that Qutbism is not rooted in the Islamic tradition, but rather, is very much a Western based ideology.

Shaykh Rabee’ ibn Hadi al-Madkhali, the renowned Salafi scholar who has written several books refuting the mistakes of Sayyid Qutb, concludes the following about Qutbism: “The Qutbists are the followers of Sayyid Qutb… everything you see of the tribulations, the shedding of blood and the problems in the Islamic world today arise from the methodology (of this man).”
With this in mind his goal is the return to Paradise. According to John Reilly at a conference given of esoteric fascism “I don’t want to dwell on Islamicist ideology; I don’t know that much about it. Still, we should note that recent Islamicist terrorists quote Evola with facility.”[2]

 Islamic terrorists instead of quoting the Koran have taken to quoting the scholars of Perennial Philosophy. If he is correct it is still kind of odd quoting Evola in the sense he is an esoteric fascist. Although part of Evolas theology on immortality was earning by dying heroically, or dying in a conscious state. Reilly goes further that after the spirit is separated it can be fixed with a preservative and lose the ability to die…This is a version of the Philosophers Stone.

If Osama bin Laden is seen in the context of his eschatology Bin Laden is a central player in a cosmic battle that pits the warriors for truth against the agents of Satan and evil in this world. The second intifada according to Saudi theologian Sifr al-Hawli began the Day of Rage of the Lord. A more moderate theologian cites Sura 57 as the fulfillment of prophesy in the Trade Center bombing, and Jerusalem is central because of its role at the Resurrection of the Dead and Final Judgment[3].

“But as opposed to (what we can reconstruct so far) of Islamic history, this time the battle is not merely conquest, but annihilation of the enemy. This is the apocalyptic world of “convert to the true faith or die.[4]”

Going back to the Philosophical ramifications, is this view- Evola‘s method of obtaining immortality compatible with Orthodox Islam? They will have to answer that.  Interesting is bin Laden’s statements of agreement with Al Gore on the environment, especially for a man with no country.

These views are not limited to the Islamic Sufis. Alexander Dugin the Russian Orthodox mystic has written;

 “The Western world is decadent. Its emphasis on individualism is corrupt. Its materialism is dangerous. Its vision of modernity reflects not progress but regress. The West will destroy itself.

But if it doesn’t, its destruction should be helped along. True salvation can be found only by returning to ancient disciplines and beliefs…”[5]

He believes in a philosophic Atlantis he calls Artogaia, the NorthLand, the country that never existed, and always exists. His view of the west is clear enough on its own and is shared by many who follow this philosophy. Coincidental is former Secretary of the Treasury Hank Paulson’s statement that it was Russia and China pulling out of AIG that caused the great financial collapse. Merrill Lynch, Lehman Brothers, and Goldman Sachs ended up as the major recipients of his bailout plan[6].

In these few examples those that are cast as Traditionalists assume the roles assigned by their faith with an uncompromising zeal. They see their role as actively working through the Great Cosmic Redemption. Part of the process is getting rid of what they consider the waste, which turns out to in the form of human life and western values. In this respect they see the percentages of attrition at the Biblical scale as a necessary harbinger to the reestablishment of Paradise on the planet, what ever view of Messiah they carry.

The extreme end takes and accepts the casualty numbers from the Bible.

“Christians know that a man must die to himself before he can…be born again in spirit. It may well be that mankind as a whole must be crucified, even unto death, before coming into its inheritance… Christians can say with Teilhard de Chardin, that death itself is beneficent, the only way to grow beyond forms which have served their limited purpose…, but with the serious and the worried, they look upon the possible extermination of the human race secure in the knowledge that it could be but a prelude to the resurrection of the species.”[7]

And who are they going out to meet?

“The Church is the feet of Jesus. God promised Jesus ‘I will train your feet, and use them to tread down and crush your enemies.” (Francis Frangipane, Charisma magazine July 1993)”

“Jack Deere speaks of an invincible army. He says, “…they won’t be able to kill this army.” John Wimber also stated, “those in this army will have the ‘kind of anointing … his kind of power … anyone who wants to harm them must die”.

 “…Thus, fourth, the covenant people must wage war against the enemies of God, because this war is unto death. The deliberate, refined, and obscene violence of the anti-God forces permits no quarter.

Fifth, this warfare must continue until the Amalekites of the world are blotted out, until God’s law-order prevails and His justice reigns.”R.J. Rushdoony, The Institutes of Biblical Law (Nutley, NJ: Craig Press, 1973), p. 318.

In this context we have gone very far. Philosophy which had worked toward our perfection since antiquity, old enough to be considered ancient in the fourth century has almost completed its work. Within the faith we have gone from “Be kind to the evil and unthankful” to;

 16.3 In the last days shall be multiplied false prophets and corruption and shall turn the sheep into wolves and love shall turn into hate. 16.4a For with the increase of lawlessness they shall hate one another and shall persecute and betray. 16.4b And then shall appear the world-deceiver as a son of God and he shall do signs and wonders and the earth shall be betrayed into his hands and he shall do godless things that have not been done since the beginning of the age.

16.5 Then human creation shall pass into the fire of testing and many shall be caused to stumble and be lost, but those who persevere in their faith shall be saved by the curse itself.- Didache
